Pundette comments on the Swedish couple who are refusing to publicly acknowledge their child’s sex, “based on the feminist theory that ‘gender’ is a ‘cruel’ ’social construct’ that forces children into artificial roles”:
A woman would have to be the queen of denial to cling to that notion after pushing a baby out of her birth canal.
Via Stacy at The Other McCain, who calls it “The best birth canal quote of the year”.
I often see liberals criticize religion for generating insane ideas, like Young Earth Creationism. But folks, I swear, the idea that gender is a social construct is possibly the most insane widely accepted idea I’ve ever run across.

I really think that you, er, I should avoid gender as much as possible while trying not to go over board–just tone it down A LOT. I used to think that girlygirls were the product of the parents’ idiocy. Since I’m not an idiot (by default) I was a bit surprised to see girlygirlness coming out of from girls. And was also surprised to see my boys doing the same exact behaviors that my girls never did such as line up match box cars in neat little rows by color and size.
Now, I do suppress girlygirlness (princess syndrome specifically) to some degree because cleaning up my own puke all day is very time consuming. But I also TRY to let them be themselves.
But there is a flip side to that. I felt like girlygirlness was shoved down my throat and my enjoyment of competitive things and geeky things was suppressed, not intentionally but because of social constructs.
I say let them do what they want with their kids. It is THEIR kids. They have the right to f them up if they want to. Darwinism will weed the kids out of the gene pool if it is too crazy. Gender denial will stop with one generation.
Diversification is my parenting mantra. Let’s ALL try to be different. Someone will inevitably get it right.
