The pictures are simpler than manga, but the story becomes much more involving because your brain has to pay attention to make the choices. I'd rate the Fate visual novel higher than the Haibane Renmei anime (Fate is one of the best VNs of all time, and routinely considered such) and rate the Haibane Renmei anime higher than the Fate anime.
