Vote for The Messiah

Without question, this Obama video is the scariest piece of political propaganda I’ve ever seen in my life.

Via neo-neocon.

I found this video through a link at Pajamas Media, where it was dubbed “the creepiest Obama tribute video ever.”

If that’s hyperbole and there’s a creepier one, I hope I never see it. This one is bad enough. It borders on the truly frightening: the rhythmic chant, the glow in the eyes, the platitudes, the utter absence of anything that could be described as thought.

Here’s an earlier piece, also independently produced, that’s almost as scary. It intercuts Obama speaking with “ordinary people”, just like the ones in the above video, weaving his words into song. “Yes we can!” Notice how perfectly his speech melts into song. It is so beautiful, so uplifting, so powerful. While I listen to it, I want to vote for the man. Again, though, listen to the crowd chanting in the background.

John Rogers, over at Kung Fu Monkey, exhorts us to Vote the Goddam Issues, or I Will Release the Robot Bees Prematurely.

So you’re saying you haven’t seen Obama talk specifics in his speeches? Hmm, what speech exactly? The complete stump speech you saw on the nightly news? Oh, that’s right, you never get more than 15 seconds of ANYONE’S speech on the nightly news. You haven’t seen more than thirty seconds of McCain’s stump speech either, I’ll wager, and yet you don’t doubt he’s just chock full o’policies. He is Very Serious, as the whinging reporters with Daddy Issues will tell you again and again.

He kindly links to the Issues pages for both Obama and McCain.

I’ve been through both pages, and frankly, I see a lot I like, and a lot I don’t like, for both candidates.

I don’t give a rat’s ass. They’re both politicians, and they’re both saying what they think will get them elected.

What I care about is that McCain’s “supporters” are saying, “Well, OK, McCain’s a rat, a dispirited liberal Republican, but if I have to vote for somebody, I guess he’s the best we’re gonna get.” If he gets the Oval, his own partisans are going to be watching him with very jaundiced eyes. Their slogan: Because I Love America More Than I Hate McCain.

Obama doesn’t have supporters. Obama has worshipers. They’re not paying any more attention to his “issues” than Rogers claims his critics are. Criticizing President Obama wouldn’t be mere treason (perfectly understandable when it’s The Bushitler under attack), it would be heresy.
(Instapunk has even more links at the bottom of his post–in particular, check out “Walking on Eggshells“. And see what Jeff at Protein Wisdom has to say.)

I mean, come on! You’re not even allowed to call the man by his middle name!

By the way, as far as the issues go, I only care about one: defense, both self- and national-. Here’s The Messiah on how he’ll declaw, defang, and neuter the U.S. military, and surrender Iraq and the Middle East to our enemies.

As to self defense: Obama and McCain. Neither candidate, frankly, is trustworthy on this point, but at least McCain signed the Senators “friend of the court” brief for Heller [PDF], while Obama’s been very inconsistent, indeed.

“Still think you can control them?”

Oh, thou little laughing gods. One of neo’s commenters links to this clip from “Cabaret”, which includes the single most chilling shrug in the history of film.

The singer is handsome and strong (where did Fosse find the boy?), his song is sweet and rousing, and almost–almost!–content-free. Only in retrospect can we hear the poison.

[Update]Ah, IMDB Trivia on Cabaret says the Hitler Youth you see on-screen is lip-synced to the actual singer, who refused to dye his hair blond. Also, the song is not a real Nazi anthem, but has apparently been adopted as one by real Nazis and skinheads.
