I’ve upgraded Wordpress to 2.3.1; previously, it was at 2.0.3.
I’m having trouble with comment spammers. I installed Challenge, but that didn’t help. I changed the question and gave an obscure answer to defeat the bots; that didn’t help. Instead, not only do I continue to get spam, but when I try to enter a comment, and deliberately fail the challenge, the comment counter ticks up, but no comment appears.
So, I’ve done the upgrade, mostly to see if this blocks more spam.
I will be making test comments to this post.
OK, tests indicate that a failed challenge still bumps the count–but if a valid comment is made, the count is not incremented again, and is decremented when the comment is deleted.
Investigating.

Update: After the better part of a day, no spam comments with a nonsense challenge and response, so I’m guessing that however the spammers were getting in, it was some fault in 2.0.4, and that it’s fixed now.
Response set to blue, among other reasonable guesses. I’ll check back later.

Updated update:
Once again spammers have flooded the comments. I’m guessing that spam-bots are smart enough to reply to any question with the word “color” in it with…color names.
Now, I’ll be trying a Constitutional Law question.
