Just jotting down a quick thought:
Capitalism is the economic equivalent of evolution.
Socialism is the economic equivalent of Intelligent Design.
Communism is the economic equivalent of Young Earth Creationism.
I’m not just trying to make a snide comparison of the plausibility of theses systems, either. I mean the underlying information mechanisms are the same. Capitalism and evolution both feature individual actors using local information to allocate local resources.
Socialism and Creationism both feature central planners using global information to make global allocations. Problem is, Creationism postulates an omniscient planner, while Socialism is stuck with a planner getting information that’s highly filtered and highly slanted by self-serving subordinates. And while Creationism’s planner is also an omnipotent actor, Socialism’s planners must use the same self-serving subordinates who filter and slant outgoing orders.
In a similar fashion, democracy and autocracy are the political incarnations.
Just sayin’ is all.
[...] points out, it’s ridiculous. Capitalism can’t break, anymore than evolution can break. Capitalism is the economic incarnation of evolution; they’re exactly the same [...]
